Selections from the debut album. 90's Nerd Rock revival, discovered by many through the old "mp3.com" days. Yes, those were the days...

"As part of their mandate to unearth buried treasure, Shock Collar Records has chosen to give the Squish a second shot at life, and this 1999 release is well worthy of resurrection. Hailing from Kamloops, BC, the Squish branded themselves as “nerd rock” and wore the term like a shiny new pocket protector. Take a bulging Star Wars lunch pail of Weezer, a foaming test tube of the Weakerthans, and a Poke Ball coffee mug of Gob, and you get the Squish, who clearly worship everything that begins and ends with Weezer’s Rivers Cuomo. But don’t take that the wrong way. The fuzzy guitar counteracts the prominent ‘90s synth nicely and saves them from embarrassing comparisons to the Aquabats. This is not music for children but for starry eyed and nerdy young lovers. Think Screeching Weasel, except not as noisy or punk rock.

Multi-instrumentalist and chief composer Kris Ruston, who has released three other records with the Squish, sings mostly about girls and broken hearts in a heartfelt and endearing manner. Although the Squish won’t be stealing fans from Cannibal Corpse with songs like “You Once Said” and “There You Are”, they don’t come across as total wimps either. This is power pop with a good and heavy hook. I’ll bet even Corpse fans might be caught tapping their feet if they think nobody is looking." - Chris Walter
